I'm not the only one who takes on projects.

My younger son decided to make himself a walking stick. He cut down a limb from a silver maple tree and carved both ends to look like the knobs on the end of a femur. That's right, a thigh bone. Because that's the sort of kid I have.
Sanded, stained and polished it until it was like satin. But the best part is what's hidden under the knob at the bottom of the stick.
He fired up his forge and hammered a metal spike to fit into a hole he carved into the end of each piece, so that when he's outside, he can use the spike end. Carving, blacksmithing, building, mechanical projects - it seems that if he imagines it, he can make it.

    1. I'm glad he made the covered end for it so he doesn't jab holes in my floor!

  2. Would he make me a back scratcher?
Jabbing holes in stuff - you could have him walk the yard and aerate it. Nice looking cane.

  4. So many kids just play video games it's wonderful that he has so much going on in his head that he can entertain himself without all that crap....

  8. Looks as though he could start a business just with the orders you are getting right here. Avery creative mind with the talent to back it up.

Now he can pick up any litter he finds on his walks.

  14. Wonderful work and love the secret spike. A very artistic young man. As soon as it warms up a bit, I will be carving again. But its been too cold for my old bones.

I have not been around much, but WOW! He is getting so tall.

    1. He mostly carves in the basement, which I find too chilly for comfort. And yes, he's 5'11" now.
