I curse my children for watching South Park.

The meal I cooked for my date last week contained some South Carolina wild-caught shrimp from my vacation. The only time I left Harbor Island, in fact, was to go just over the bridge to buy some local shrimp. I peeled and de-veined a couple of pounds of them, and and stuck them in the freezer to bring home.
Of all the places to buy shrimp, this was the one I could not resist. And then I spent the next couple of hours singing "Gay Fish" to myself. Because you don't have to actually like a song to have it become an earworm and stay with you forever.
"I've been so lonely girl, I've been so sad and down
Couldn't understand why haters joked around
I wanted to be free with other creatures like me
And now I got my wish, cause I know that I'm a gay fish." (Kanye West)

  1. South Park is a brilliant show. Absolutely.

Wonderful shrimp too, I can see them as earworms of the very best kind. Or maybe not.

    1. It does seem unfair to have one without the other.

  6. Right. Am I the only one??!!
Having not watched any of South Park, I had to actually google this and read the entire wikipedia entry to 'get it'.

    So... how were the shrimp?

    1. On South park, Canadians all have faces drawn like stick figure faces. I don't know why.

      The shrimp were great.

    2. I have heard that Canada is often parodied on this show. I think the faces are possibly meant to parody our blandness :)

  7. As gross as I think it is, I do sometimes find myself laughing in spite of myself at the antics of those South Park kids when my son has it on! I've heard the guys who write that stuff are all Ivy League grads! The value of a high class education. But they do poke fun at things that need to have fun poked at them. Equal opportunity grossness!

    1. That's the way it is for me. I kindof hate the show, and then I laugh anyway. Some of it is very clever.

  8. Is there a story behind the Gay Fish Company? Like is it someone's last name?

    1. It's named after the Gay family, and has been around at least since the '60's.

  9. I had to google it as well, being a South Park ignoramus. Not one of the world's greatest jokes, but be that as it may....

And what Bijoux said. Where did the name come from? From South Park maybe?

    1. Oh no, it pre-dates South Park by at least 40 years.

  10. Curmudgeon here. Do not like South Park. I have never heard this song, and although I admit the "tune" is catchy, the words just don't do anything for me. I guess I just don't get it. Oh, well.....to each their own.

    1. The show is wildly satirical, but can also be wildly offensive.

  11. There are a lot of pop cultural references that we pick up whether we want to or not :) And I can't help but find it funny when real life and pop culture collide.
