Gee, I wonder why?

From one magazine rack at the grocery store:

Diet! Diet! Diet! Diet! And then they marvel that people become fixated on dieting?
What would happen, do you think, if the focus was not on dieting but on healthy food?

  1. If the focus was on healthy food, I guess most of these magazines would go out of business, as diets, fashion, celebs and recipes are for some inexplicable reason what appeal to their readers.

    1. Probably so. But healthy recipes would be fine - just not on the "lose 20 pounds by eating cotton candy" stuff.

  2. I totally agree with what Nick said above regarding the magazines

What ppl should really be doing is eat properly and exercise. It's as simple as that.

    1. Simple. And I recognize hard to do. But quickie diets never work long-term.

  4. Heehee, "I dropped a size watching CSI". Love that. I always find it amusing that those magazines are up by the cash register next to all the candy and chocolate bars and other impulse snack foods.

    1. I hadn't thought of that, but maybe they are meant to cancel each other out, like getting a Big Mac and diet Coke?

  5. what would happen if people just stop buying these dumb magazines? They don't offer anything you can't find on the web today. Of course there might be more junk on the web but at least you can quickly search for other opinions.

    1. We get some less cheesy home-type magazine for our waiting room and I often find good recipes in them, so I'm not knocking magazines in general. Just the whole crazy diet theme.

  6. Many people have become very lazy about food. They think that healthy means complicated and time consuming. They would rather eat out of a box. The diet industry is making a fortune off of this. Jenny and E-Diets for example. All these people have to do is grab a box out of the freezer and throw it in the micro.

Meanwhile they are filling up on hidden fats, chemicals and sodium at high levels. Its still junk food.!

It takes time to get fat... and just as long to lose it with healthy eating and exercise. And people are still letting these magazines tell them what makes them sexy or beautiful.

    1. It's actually astounding to me how many people I know who are proud of the fact that they don't cook at all! That only works if you can afford to eat at really good restaurants everyday who offer healthy menu items.

  7. I think the focus should be on tomatoes. I see you are a connoisseur of the tomato, and for that you have my respect.

    1. I am a fan of tomatoes. Although I'm not sure what I'd have to say would fill a whole magazine!

  9. many are aware of eating right but many are also not.
another story in women's mag that gets recycled every now and then is something along the lines of 10 ways to keep your man happy or 8 ways to tell if he loves you. those annoy me more than anything.

    1. I'm not convinced those stories are about eating right so much as short-term solutions that won't work for the long haul. But you're right, those stories about how to appeal to men are sickening.
