Autumn is here with a vengeance.

And even though I hate the thought of winter headed my way, this does seem like a happy time of year.
There's something about the combination of bright blue skies and vivid leaves that is so appealing.
Chlorophyll absent, this maple and oak leaf pair stand out against the still very green grass.
I probably drive my son crazy, because as we drive I say constantly, "Wow, look at that tree!"
Sweetgum leaves fall in a variety of colors, this one in a speckled yellow.
One of the best things about this part of the country is that we get spectacular color in the fall and lush green for a big part of the rest of the year.
Even the highway through town looks decorated.
But I don't have to go that far - the drive into my neighborhood is also wonderful.
When the leaves first fall, the lawns in the neighborhood have bright leaf carpets.
And this tree on the corner absolutely glows.
And then there is my own home.  The big old dogwoods in front are in the homestretch, leaves a more aged red now.
From my bedroom the sun comes in one one side through these trees,
and through these along the back yard.
Remind me of this when it's cold and barren, okay?

Yes, it does! Fall is perhaps my favorite time of the year. Everything is so colorful and the air feels so crisp. It makes me feel so energized and alive!

I'm originally from the north east, but lived in Florida for 20 years. I really enjoyed my time in Florida but when I turned 45, I suddenly got the desire to move back. I missed the change of seasons and how they make the holidays so special.

Stunning photos! The colors you captured are truly beautiful. You really captured the essence of the fall!

    1. Thanks! Summer is still my favorite - I am very much a warm weather person. But I do like this crisp time of year and tromping through the fallen leaves. And it does seem somehow right for the holidays to be when it's colder.

  2. I envy you living in an area with beautiful autumn foliage. At least I can enjoy the photos. I think when it comes to other seasonal events, particularly snow, I am happy to only enjoy photos :)

  4. Thanks for sharing your autumn with us who don't get the vivid four seasons; those trees are so gorgeous in color! I would be like you driving down the street; I'm sure I would be commenting about all the colorful trees out there!

    1. Even if there isn't someone else in the car, I'm commenting in my head as I pass the trees. :-)

  7. the vistas the rolling foothills give do draw people to your area. Does the tree viewing tourists clog up the roads much?

  8. I love the colours of fall but I am a summer person, I need to be warm. 10 days in Egypt in December will top me up with vitamin D and make winter a little shorter I hope.

  10. Ooh, I was just needing an injection of autumn; it's gnarly bad weather outside these last two days--rain and cold and feelings fo winter too early come. Your post has reminded me there's still color and warmth to be had!

  12. Such amazing colours! There's nothing like that in Northern Ireland. Just a few orange leaves here and there. And I thought the best displays of autumn (fall) leaves were supposed to be in New England. Clearly not so!

    1. This part of the country has an equally spectacular display in the fall, with the bonus of milder winters than up north.

  15. So, should I tell you about the snow piling up outside right now? Looks like Montana is going straight into winter.
