Time for a break from the massive de-cluttering project. I actually have other things I need to do, too, but tonight I'm just going to get to sleep early. I stopped at a friend's house after yoga last night to have a glass of wine. She and I are capable of talking for hours, and I ended up not getting home until after one this morning. But we got another warm beautiful day and walking a couple of miles at the lake helped.
But I do see some odd things at the lake. Like this. Why? Why would anyone stick a dress on their dog? It wasn't even for a parade or anything. This woman apparently just had her dog confused with a doll. And you know what that dog is thinking? "Uh huh, you think this dress is sweet and I should be happy to wear it? One of these days, lady, I'm going to rip your throat out while you sleep."
But maybe the dog keeps silent because he knows that old commonly used expression about the effect of words on breaking bones and buttering parsnips. What's that? You don't know that one? Okay, neither do I. In fact, the vaguely nudge, nudge tone of this makes me pretty certain this one was designed for that game where you add the words "in bed" to the end of your fortune. Some things in life just defy understanding.
"Now that she's back in the atmosphere with drops of Jupiter in her hair,
She acts like summer and walks like rain, reminds me that there's a time to change.
Since the return from her stay on the moon, she listens like spring and she talks like June.
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded and that heaven is overrated?" (Train)
CRACKED ME UP what you said about the dog's response in wearing the dress! And I hope the dog is female. If not, a drag queen perhaps???
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about the wine you drank because I like trying new wines. I will look for that brand. I really like Sirah!
"the vaguely nudge, nudge tone of this makes me pretty certain this one was designed for that game where you add the words "in bed" to the end of your fortune."
HA! LOVED that!!!!
Enjoy your evening!

Male or female, I can't imagine a dog that would be happy looking like this!
DeleteI like Sirah's too and this one I bought just because I liked the label so much! But I did enjoy it.
Which came first, the wine or the song?
ReplyDeleteThat is the ugliest dog outfit I've ever seen. I wan to know if you stealthily took that picture, or did the dog owner think you just really liked her dog's style and needed a picture of it?
That fortune reminds me of email spam!
I had to google that - turns out the band had the wine made after their song became a hit!
DeleteI took the picture surreptitiously from my car.
The dress makes me sick. The dog looks like a circus chimp, which also makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteYay it's spring.i can tell how psyched you are, and I am too!
Love

I had the circus chimp association, too. Maybe it's the bright pattern. I've always hated to see poor chimps in clothing.
DeleteAnd yes, I do LOVE me some Spring.
Poor pup, that's really awful. I don't understand putting clothing on dogs unless it's to do with keeping them warm. My dogs have sweaters because they really dislike the cold, but unfortunately dog clothes are likely to get pee on them. It makes me disinclined to put them on the dogs even if they will be cold without them. Putting a dress on a dog in warm weather completely defies explanation. As does the fortune cookie slip. What on earth is that supposed to mean?
ReplyDeleteOur greyhound had a felted coat he wore in the cold because they have such thin skin. He hated it, though, so we only used it when we had to walk him in frigid weather.
DeleteI'm telling ya, I'm sure that fortune is about sex.
ha. in bed...i agree with bijoux...it sounds like spam...and that dad...should bite its owner...a couple times...
ReplyDeleteYou can see how the dog is gauging an escape route. :-)
DeletePoor dog, at the mercy of a lunatic with no regard for his dignity! If dogs ever take over the world, and there is such a thing as Karma, that woman better watch out!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree - the woman would be in some serious hot water.
DeleteYou got me on this song. I don't believe I've heard it.
ReplyDeleteReally? You still hear it on the radio all the time.
DeleteI'm all for buttered parsnips. Seriously. I am.
ReplyDeleteAnd dogs should NEVER be made to wear dresses. NEVER. EVER.
I'm all for bizarre fortunes. And yes, there's a whole lotta wrongness to dogs in dresses.
DeleteI would have been very confused getting that fortune cookie! Glad you got to meet up with your friend and share some wine. We all need nights like that.
ReplyDeleteYes we do! I look forward to them.
DeleteHa! When I saw the name of that wine, the first thing that popped into my head was the Train song.
ReplyDeleteAnd that poor dog. Imagine the humiliation when he meets other dogs. And how does he pee without getting urine all over the dress? He should rip her throat out in the middle of the park.
I bought it because I found myself singing the song as soon as I saw it and could not resist.
DeleteI feel the same way about poodles with bows and painted toenails. So humiliating.
I'm utterly baffled! Why on earth would anyone think putting a dress on their dog was a smart idea? Yes, I do hope the dog finds a sneaky way of getting its own back. A giant turd on her beautiful Persian rug would be a start....
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is the sort of person who would have a Persian rug.
DeleteHaven't had the wine, but the band is donating the proceeds to a family safe house, in San Francisco I think. Now that's socially-responsible drinking at it's best.
ReplyDeleteDressing animals.....Emily had a box turtle years ago she used to dress up, and once when she was a teenager we had a huge turkey we got from a local rancher for t'giving...36 pounds. It literally had cleavage. She put one of her bras on the carcass and took a picture.
Oh, that's very cool. I'll have to go back and get more of it, then.
DeleteI'll give children a pass. And as for the turkeys, they've been genetically morphed beyond recognition. Kind of makes me sad.
I would so drink that wine.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember that people who dress up their dogs are probably very kind to them in other ways. There has to be some payoff :)
LOVE the fortune cookie slip! Perfect, perfect for "in bed".
I'm sure that is true and that she is a nice woman and caring pet owner. Just deeply misguided.
DeleteI suspect people who dress their pets of being the kind to think their love of their pets is on the same level as my love for my kids.
ReplyDeleteYes, and as much as I do love animals, they are still animals instead of people.
DeleteYep. But if you don't agree with them, they say you don't understand. Ever notice how many of them don't have kids?
DeleteI have noticed!
Deleteyoga, friends, and wine. i submit that's a pretty fine evening.
ReplyDeletebuttered parsnip words? uh....i think the writer of fortunes is smoking something funny.
And you'd be right about that!
DeleteActually, probably right on both counts.
I love Train, especially their song "Calling All Angels".
ReplyDeleteMy best friend/coworker can talk and laugh for hours. She recently added another degree to her resume and wants to find another job. I'm really going to miss her when she leaves.
Another friend of mine dresses up her cats. Although they look cute, I'm guessing it takes a special kind of cat to be very, very patient.
When I used to work in COmmunity Mental Health, I grieved when ne of my closest friends left. I still see her, of course, but it was fun having her there at work.
DeleteI meant to say "my best friend/coworker and I".
ReplyDeleteFunny, I actually read it that way!
DeleteAn acquaintance does this to her dog, it bothers me so much. A dress for every occasion, Valentine's, Patrick's, Easter and loads of pictures of the unhappy canine.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine doing it to mine.
Buy a doll I want to say to her.

I always thought one of the benefits of pets (versus kids) is that you don't have to worry about clothing them.
DeleteI once knew a woman who had a baptism for her dog and had a special gown made for the occassion. A friend of mine catered the event. Lordy.
ReplyDeleteThat strikes me as a little creepy.
