How about served in the order received. First in first out? Bad grammar doesn't bother me much. There are a few expressions commonly used in the "wrong" way that bug me a little. For example, I don't know when the use of "a ton of" or "tons" for meaning many or large amount became common. I thought ton should only be used as a measurement of weight.
LOL :) You'd love working for my company; on our audits we get dinged if we put a comma in the wrong place, heaven forbids, that might compromise patient care :)
(I love grammar myself, but not obsessed about it; unfortunately these days I'm sure it is soon to be a lost art).
Thank you! Now can you work on people who say 'could of'?
ReplyDeleteI guess I could of tackled that one first...

ReplyDeleteFirst come, first served is adequate if they do it correctly.
DeleteThe American edition of the Oxford dictionary lists ton/tons used that way as acceptable in informal use.
I approve.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this comes from someone who ranted about Taco Bell's latest offering to no end.
I will have to check that out.
