Things you'll never see me wearing.

I was looking at running shoes earlier this summer and saw these on display. I thought they might be designed for athletic clowns. But guess what? At the gym yesterday morning I saw a pair of them on the feet of one of the trainers. I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing at him.
I like sock monkeys as much as the next person - I even own one. But seriously, what the hell? On old-fashioned cotton housedresses like my grandmother used to wear, no less.
And then I got a catalog I'd never heard of in the mail and the first page I flipped it open to was this one. Made for the way I live? I had to put this one on facebook - because my immediate thought was that you'd have to kill me to get them on me and even then I was pretty sure my corpse would fight back. I know I'm about to hit a half century, but dear God, no. Just no. In fact, no to any pants with an elastic waist. I'm hanging on to my Levi's, thank you.

  1. Wow. Those shoes could be seen from space! And I didn't even know they made house dresses anymore. I might start rocking those ;-)

    1. My grandmother wore house dresses year-round when she was at home. I guess it made sense in the hot Georgia summers, but they sure aren't attractive.

    1. I think there's a lot of reasonable space between fashionista and this sort of thing.

  3. I agree those are clown shoes. The jeans well it depends on the body shape or maybe body out-of-shape is more accurate. Without debating a person's ability of stay in shape, I think you would agree that some shapes do not present a very nice picture with tight jeans. When you can the pressure stressing the fabric to its bursting point maybe they should try a different style.

    1. You don't have to buy tight jeans to avoid these elastic waist ones. You just buy the right size of real jeans.

  5. Shoes - OMG! Who in their right mind....

Sock moneys - Had to google that one, I don't think we have them over here. And that's a monkey? You could have fooled me.

Elastic-waisted pants - No and no again, even when I'm 90. An awful admission of dietary defeat and visible oldiness.

    1. I didn't realize sock monkeys were an American phenomenon. The were popular when I was growing up.

I get comfort, but I don't get entirely giving up.

  9. Great. Now I'm looking askance at the slip-on shoes I've been wearing since retirement. And the the new wading boots with the ez-buckle.

    1. Nothing wrong with shoes that are easy to put on. It's the "I just don't give a damn-ness" of the pants that got me.

  12. This cracked me up! Have you ever seen the ads on the last page of coupon circulars that come in the Sunday paper? They have photos of women (very generic WASPish women in their 30's, I'd say) wearing house dresses and the most bizarre looking bras, attempting to sell those things...........TO WHOM is my question!

    1. Those weird Genie bras? Who buys those? It's like someone went out pf their way to design a maximally ugly bra.

  13. I'm seeing the dress with the shoes. You'd only have to add a red clown nose, and, perhaps, a multicolored wig, and you would be set for the circus:-)

    1. You'd have to buy the shoes a few sizes too big for that look. :-)

  14. There's an advertisement on television here for a pair of jeans that is actually a pair of pajama pants just painted to look like jeans. So it's floppy cotton flannel pulled tighter, dyed dark blue, with painted on stitching and pockets. Apparently this is meant to fool people when you choose to go out in your pajamas. Makes me smile. I'd rather just go out in my pajamas if it comes to that.

    1. Pajama jeans! Of course, I see an awful lot of people out and about in flannel pj pants and slippers, so I don't know that there is a need to try to pass off fake jeans as jeans.

    1. Pajamas get a pass - they are purely about comfort. I have several pairs of pajama bottoms with drawstring waists.
