Grammar Guerrilla

I couldn't help it, something just had to be done about this sign at the park.

    1. I'm forgiving of typos in general, but not on signage.

  5. How about served in the order received. First in first out? Bad grammar doesn't bother me much. There are a few expressions commonly used in the "wrong" way that bug me a little. For example, I don't know when the use of "a ton of" or "tons" for meaning many or large amount became common. I thought ton should only be used as a measurement of weight.

    1. First come, first served is adequate if they do it correctly.

The American edition of the Oxford dictionary lists ton/tons used that way as acceptable in informal use.

  6. I approve.

Of course, this comes from someone who ranted about Taco Bell's latest offering to no end.

  7. Are you sure it wasn't clarifying one of the basic rules for tennis matches? :-)

    1. Definitely - no tennis courts there - it was for a picnic pavilion.

    1. I tried to make the D the same size as the other letters, but I was working from memory.

  9. LOL :) You'd love working for my company; on our audits we get dinged if we put a comma in the wrong place, heaven forbids, that might compromise patient care :)

(I love grammar myself, but not obsessed about it; unfortunately these days I'm sure it is soon to be a lost art).

    betty

    1. I don't actually get bothered by things like that. But signs get me.
