I've turned into something of a sporadic blogger.

And it's snowing. You will hear me carping about this until Spring hits. Just so you know.
Not that I haven't been doing some fun things.   went with my photo-shopping friend to see a play in an itty bitty theater. There were parts of the play where the actors were in the aisle. There were maybe forty seats for the audience. The actors in the four-person show did a good job and even though I'd seen the movie, I was engrossed. There's something about the immediacy of a small venue for acting or music that is compelling.
I've also gotten in some good time with my younger son. We went for a walk in town and then had sushi together. We've developed a routine of going to half-price sushi day on the weekends I have him and ordering these same five rolls. The we order two or three more. Why don't we just get seven or eight to start with? Well, that's not our routine. We often talk about how things are going with him as we eat because it's just a relaxed way to be together. I am sure going to miss that boy when he heads off next fall.
And in the meantime... it's snowing. :-/

  1. waiting on the snow here...supposed to come this eve...we will see...the play sounds fun...i like shakespearian theatres like that where the actors become part of the audience...

  2. Okay, first I have to say....I LOVE the design of that theater program for the play Proof! What a brilliantly designed program! I have never seen that play, but have heard nothing by raves about it. And should be shot, being a theater person, and not having yet seen that play because it's a classic. Nor have I seen the movie, which I need to rent.

Yes, there is, isn't there? It's so intimate that you feel a part of the play. I remember performing in several plays that were in very small venues, and it was hard to get used to at first because the audience feels right on top of you, so you really have to stay focused.

And I'm shocked that you're getting snow because it's been unusually warm and humid here. Almost like spring weather. I'll tell you what, let's you and I change places okay?

    1. They also had cookies with mathematical symbols on them!

I like that feeling of being right there with the actors.

And I'd happily change places to get away from the cold!

  3. Gosh it's such a melt here I got my car in a bog and can't get it out. Just put an SOS out on FB. The snow is vanishing and the temperature has RIZ by at least 10 and that's Celsius, very weird and dangers of floods.

    love that play!!

  5. Seven or eight rolls for two people? I feel much better about my diet now. I occasionally make a roll for myself as a snack, but I've thought of it as equivalent to a whole meal.

    1. I probably eat a third of what we order.

    2. Ahhh... of course, boys being hungry galumphing beasties. I should have thought of that.

  6. I saw the movie, it was somewhat uncomfortable for me. I have a daughter who is a big 'upgrade' from me, intelligence-wise. There were a few moments that made me shift in my chair.

The sushi looks great, wished we had some within an hours drive.

Oddly, I'd like you to find a palm reader and shift us some of your snow...we're way behind average and need the moisture.

    1. After watching my Dad's descent into Alzheimer's, I know the sorrow of witnessing the loss of a good mind. It's sad. My Dad and I were in such different areas, though, that I can't really compare us.

  7. Never had sushi, but that does look good (actually I want to try it sometime, I just need to go with someone who knows what they are doing and ordering, since I would be so clueless). Glad you are getting the time in with your son this year before he takes off to college in the fall; so hard when they grow up.

Not that I want the snow, but we would like the precipitation here.

I think sporadic blogging works just fine. Sometimes we can get too wrapped up here.

    1. Sashimi is my favorite, but that's not part of the half-price sushi deal.

  8. Here it's also snowing and I am a bit melancholic today...

As far as sushi is concerned I am kind of ignorant, don't know even the proper names:)

  9. I love live theatre and we are fortunate to have so many choices of that here. I miss my son sooo much this year, but I'm glad he loves his college life. We had three snow-free days and it was awesome. Unfortunately, it's back in business today.

  10. You order five rolls, then two or three more? I can identify with that. Jenny and I have similar strange rituals. At Christmas we never have two mince pies at once, we have one and then a little later it's always "Shall we have another one?"

I agree about the attraction of a small venue. Always more intimate and engaging than a vast auditorium.

  11. I am not a sushi fan but I love that you have a "date" with your son for dinner. That's a fab tradition that I hope lasts a lifetime.
    Bon Appetit!

  12. You have every right to be upset about the snow. It's fair payback for all the weather-related posts you put up with from the rest of us.

I kind of miss your kid next fall, too, on your behalf. Sigh.

  13. Keep that snow there--ours is gone for the moment. I am glad you and your son are getting some quality time together before the big transition.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  16. You may be a sporadic blogger but lately I detect a kind of serenity missing in many previous posts.

Is it that everything slows down when it snows?

    Or maybe it is you?

  17. most of the bloggers I follow seem to be more and more sporadic these days.
Not a big deal. You should write when you feel the urge to write. Now a post every 3-4 months like a few I had followed leave me thinking they have just quit.
You are right about a live performance being better than a movie. It's feels more real.

  18. If you are a sporadic blogger, I wonder what I am lately....much less than sporadic.
My sons are theater guys. One of them played the part of the male (father) mathematician in that play. It was awesome, and a bit disconcerting to see him in that role. I agree with the comment above that it is a great program design.
As to the snow, my first response is quite immature...."nah, nah, nah-nah yah".

  20. Sporadic is better than being a non-blogger!

I had gone on vacation with my son last week. I had not been any where out of our home town with him and this trip was exhilarating for both of us. My daughter in law accompanying us was a bonus. I think that I am very fortunate to have both in my life on a full time basis.
