Some days I'm glad to just be inside.

We got the weirdest snow yesterday. Small styrofoam-like pellets that were blowing in nearly sideways. And it was cold. I wanted spring, not this. Now I'm huddled in waiting for the promised warm-up next weekend.
But a friend had told me his band was playing the noon show on Saturday, so I gritted my teeth against the snow and went downtown. This show is free to the public, every noon except Sundays. Mostly folk, Americana, bluegrass. Sometimes local bands, sometimes people who are touring. Usually two acts, half an hour each. It's such a small venue that it has the feel almost of a house party.

Yup, exactly what that snow looks like. Perfect description.

You dinner guest night sounded wonderful! Great menu, great wine!

And I love the candle/flower centerpiece. Really nice!

  4. Snow looks like hail or really big sleet. The music was worth the trip then? "Dinner guest" with breakfast picked out too. Come for dinner and stay for breakfast - great deal.

    1. Yes, the show was a lot of fun. And I figure if someone is spending the night, I ought to gave breakfast foods available.

  5. My dad called that 'tapioca snow', we get it occasionally here.

    1. That's very a good description of it. And yet... tapioca gives me the heebie jeebies, so I'm going to have to stick with styrofoam!

  8. It's quite Spring-like here today, thank goodness, I'm sick of the cold weather. Your menu sounds good, hope the dinner date was too. x

  9. A noon concert sounds divine. I am extremely tired of the snow. It has been non-stop here. I believe I saw the sun for 20 minutes total last week.

    1. The nice thing about noon concerts is you still have the rest of the day left. We've been alternating beautiful days with gray, cold days,

  12. Holy hell, I can see your blog. For the longest time it just came up as "site not found" so I thought you'd killed it. I even had a small wake with Christmas beer.

    1. What? Are you sure you were going to the right place? I haven't moved. But I do appreciate the wake.

  13. I love risotto but I'm hopeless at making it, I can never get it creamy enough. There must be some mysterious extra ingredient I'm unaware of. I love every kind of rice - basmati, arborio, wholegrain, whatever.

The snow pellets are weird indeed. I've never seen snow like that.

    1. I think it may be less abou the ingredients than the slow process of gradually adding broth and wine and letting it absorb. You use arborio rice in risotto, by the way.

  16. Gawd, that whole menu sounds fantastic!

We've had weird snow like that before when it doesn't look real. It makes me think of Dippin Dots, the ice cream pellets.

    1. Yes, Dippin Dots! And also pearl (Israeli) cous cous.

Presumably you had the guest for pudding?

    1. Wait, what? I have no idea what that means. It sounds a little obscene. And funny, since I absolutely loathe pudding!
