You ever have one of those months?

The kind where it feels like you have a year of stress packed into one month? And these buzzards hanging out in the big dead tree behind my house seemed to know it.  Some people, when they are under stress, eat for comfort. Not me. I'm one of those strange people who loses interest in food. It's not that I don't get hungry. It's just that it doesn't often occur to me to eat. And when it does, unless I'm out to eat or cooking for someone else, it hardly feels worth the trouble. I will even feel myself getting hypoglycemic and think, "Whatever." I don't generally realize it's a problem until I step on a scale. When I weigh less than my temperature, I need to start paying attention.
I imagine my resident vultures watching through the window in back of my house saying to each other, "It won't be long now." Fortunately, I know what to do.  I started cooking big breakfasts and dinners for my younger son when he is at my house, so I'll eat, too. I stop for milkshakes. Pick up good beer. Keep cheese and crackers around. Make sure I have bagels and lox available. But more importantly, I make a decision that what is weighing on me will just work out as it will. No amount of worrying changes that. The people involved will or won't be helpful, will or won't be true friends, will or won't stay in my life long-term. But one way or another, I will be fine. And the buzzards?  I decided they are just visiting because they like me.

    Good for you! Great outlook!

Often when I go through stressful or challenging times, I find that if I spend quiet time alone, I seem to get more clarity than if I discuss it with others.

You're so right....it will work out as it will.

    And you'll be fine :)

    1. I usually do best with a combination - I talk to a couple of trusted friends and also spend some time on my own re-grouping. And I do a lot of talking to myself! I often think that even when you can't see a silver lining at the moment, you can wait and eventually will one into existence.

  2. it is healthy to realize sometimes that our stress...its all going to work out one way or another...and all that worry it adds up to a whole lot of nothing...

    1. I know. I am wired to worry, though, so I try to cut myself some slack and figure it is just part of the process.

  3. Sorry to hear about all the stress. Like you, I tend to worry too much about things. And yes, in the end all you can do is let things work out as they will. You're a resilient person and you can cope with what life throws at you.

  4. When I'm upset I don't eat at all! When I'm stressed, I eat. I'm glad you recognize that you need to be careful of wasting away though. Things do have a way of working out. ;)

    1. The way I'm using the word stressed includes being upset. A combination of anxious and sad, maybe.

  8. I have the opposite reaction unless it's what I call super-sad when I don't heat, that only happens with death or heartbreak and I hunker down and wait for the Black Dog to get hungry for fresh meat and gallop off.

    I like your philosophy.

I've been doing a bit of hunkering down this month, that's for sure.

  9. ya know, seems we've been in sync lately. only thing is i am a stress eater. but this week i've finally gotten myself moving and back on track as to putting healthier things in my mouth. what will be will be and all we can control is our response to life.

    1. I've noticed. :-)

Stress eating is more common, I think. Food can be a comfort. I don't know why I'm wired to fall into the other camp.

  10. I seem to live on the philosophy that if I worry about something, it won't come to pass. It is the stuff that I never see coming that gets me.....and I never even had the chance to worry about it.
Usually, I am a stress eater. It sounds as though you have found a good balance now. I am hoping that once I am back under stress, I will be able to maintain a recent weight loss. Same problem, reversed.
The world goes on, no matter......

    1. I just hate being blindsided. I haven't found that worrying protects me, but I can't help myself. The world does go on - I'd just like to go on with it!

  11. I'm having one of those months right now. Worrying does not change the outcome but sometimes we just can't help it. I know that the big items that have happened in my life I also didn't eat. So glad your pushing forward and enjoy those milkshakes!!

    1. I allow myself the worry because I know eventually I'll pull myself together and just get on with it, desired outcome or not.

  12. Well, on the bright side, turkey vultures in your trees is probably better than a raven tapping on your study window upon a midnight dreary, croaking 'nevermore'.

  13. Buzzards? I had no idea you had them in your area. But I'd agree they're there because they like you :)

I've missed you! I have to try to get back to being a regular blogger again.

Please stop losing weight. The winter winds will be blowing soon and I don't want to find you in a snow drift somewhere ;)

    1. Oh, we have tons of them. In fact, in this part of the country, buzzards are here year-round.

I have stopped losing, and fortunately we rarely get snow drifts around here. :-)

Did you ever see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? I liked the saying from that movie - Everything will be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

    1. I have not seen that - I typically don't see a movie until it comes o DVD or better, yet, instant streaming.

I think everything will be as it will be - not always to our liking but there is almost always something good to be gained anyway.
