Onward.

Honestly, I'm kind of glad it's over. Not Christmas, so much, but the whole year. In the past, I've always done a year-end summary, but this year I didn't even want to do that. I'll just say it was exhausting. I don't even have the luxury of lying down on the job, like some shepherds I could mention. So... done with 2012, moving on to 2013.

I don't do New Year's resolutions. I mean, who doesn't think that this is finally the year they'll exercise more, eat healthier, spend more time with people they care about, advance their careers, get their finances in order, and finally get rid of all the clutter? Instead I have been (and will continue to be) reflecting. I have some decisions to make and change on the horizon, and I want to approach that mindfully.  I'm going to leave it at that for now.

For the New Year - whatever your hopes, whatever your plans - I wish you all well.

    1. Thank you. I'm not even sure what I'd change about it, but I'm still ready to leave it behind.

    1. I absolutely cracked up when I saw the reclining shepherd in that nativity.

  5. Wishing the very same for you! I don't do resolutions either because they have never ever worked for me!

    1. Intentions, perhaps, but definitely not resolutions.

  6. Yup..I don't do New Year's resolution either. Like you, I reflect and try to use the things I learned in the previous year for the following year.

    Mindfully.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR to you!

    Cheers!

    1. If you learn nothing from the preceding year, what would even be the point?

  7. I detest this time of the year (January), so no cheery resolutions from me. Lets just make it through the next few months until the sun shines again. Hope your decision making process is fruitful!

  8. From the expression on Joseph's face, he whacked the fellow with his staff.
I have some resolutions for some other people, public officials, etc.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    1. But why would he be carried a shepherd's crook? Wasn't he supposed to be a carpenter?

I don't think public officials are listening.

    2. I clicked on the pic...notice the shepherd doesn't have a staff...back story is that Joseph took it away from him when he noticed the shepherd was suggesting to a colleague that Joseph was unable to provide a suitable lifestyle to Mary and the child. He over-reacted, and now is regretting it.
      Best I can do...

    3. I like it! My version. Joseph picked up the staff when the shepherd passed out, after a night of hitting the flask. However, the young shepherd then began levitating, pre-saging the whole Lazarus incident, begin levitating. Joseph doesn't get it, and thinks the drunken shepherd is just goofing around. He's moments away from whacking the shepherd.

    4. Yes, you have something there. And some years later, when the kid is looking for a career, Joseph muses "Listen, there was this thing I saw, when you were born...maybe try a variation on this..."

    5. That's good, because there's a shocking lack of mention of Joseph once the baby gets there. (For that matteer, he didn't play much of a role in the baby getting there!)

  9. Every year I resolve to be less anxious and take things as they come. I always fail miserably.

  10. Happy New Year! I think that reflective is the way to go. Good luck making your choices.

  11. No more resolutions for me, setting myself up for beatings and whippings much like yon shepherdy man.
Each day, opening like a sparkley jewel ready for me to play with is my style today. Apart from December that is. To give me balance.
    Happies to you SAW!
    And tinselly bits too.

    1. I find that since I can't predict my life, there really isn't any sense in me making specific goals/resolutions.

      Tinselly bits to you, too.

  12. 2012 was definitely a mixed bag. I like that a new year gives us a natural point in time to reflect on the past and look towards the future with hope.

  13. This year was exhausting for me, too. Pursuing dreams takes it all out of me, and the result, still sooooo far away from getting what I want.

But keep on trying, keep on, no one else will do it for us.

Work, the nature of the beast of life.

And we have our health, and we are together, and we have food and a house, and we are lucky.

    Peace to you. xo

    1. Counting your blessings is the way to go, especially when you are losing sight of what's good.

  14. 2012 seems like a blur to me, it went by so quickly! No resolutions here and yes we do all wish for those same things.
Wishing you all the best to you and your boys in 2013. ((HUGS))

  15. 2012 flew by for me. I was so busy with so many major projects. It's wonderful to see that some of them came to fruition. Resolutions? Like you said, everyone has those same hopes for the year. I gave up resolutions on New Years long ago because it never did more than take up time and embarrass me when I failed.

    1. That's why I don't like to tell anyone when I'm trying something. I was even secretive about wanting to get pregnant!

  16. It strikes me as very wise to toss a sharp salute at the year past and then turn your gaze to an easier, hopeful future.

I'm with you on finding resolutions silly; for me, I can't tolerate living in wishful thinking ("I should..."; "One day I'll...") when every day is a chance to do the things you want to do. I hear so many people around me talking about wanting to exercise, and it's hard for me not to point out that they could have been on a lovely walk during the twenty minutes they spent kvetching about how they don't exercise.

    1. I think people say "exercise" and don't even think about something as simple as taking a walk. And it really is just a matter of startung.

  17. I am not a resolution person either. After pulling those kids around in the snow for a few days, I did realize that getting into better shape would be beneficial (for me and the kids obviously). I am going to make that happen.
