Snow day!

When I got home from work yesterday afternoon, the snow was already falling thickly.
By dusk, everything was covered. This sort of snow always looks magical to me.
Patients cancelled today. What could I do but head out to the lake for a walk?
There was a group of kids who'd brought sleds for the hills and a few other walkers. The icy patches called for attention and I didn't even try to walk quickly.
Kids aren't the only ones who enjoy a snowfall. This herd of deer were having a big time, running and leaping in the snow. I switched the camera over to video, but they stopped to huddle up and chat until I put my camera back down. Contrary things.
The schools had been closed since Tuesday for flooding anyway, and it was easy enough for them to tack on one more closure for a snow day. I could have gone in to the office to do some accounting work, but I wanted to be home.
It's supposed to get up to the mid-50's tomorrow, so I am just enjoying it while it's here.

  8. We only have a few patches here and there of snow left from the blizzard of 12/26. I'm dreading next week already.

  9. Such magical photos. Fresh snow makes everything look beautiful. A pity it has to turn to filthy slush sooner or later.

    1. I do love the look of clean snow. Around here, it generally melts completely away quickly rather than turning to dirty slush.

  11. This is the kind of snow I like (not the kind that is currently blowing its way through the city at the moment) Of course, snow in the country is always much prettier than snow in the city.

  12. Okay, can I just say that these photos are FAAAAAAAAABULOUS, girl!

    *three cheers*

Especially love the one of the twinkling sunlight on the lake!

Deer are probably one of my favorite wild animals because their eyes contain such a beautiful gentleness, yet a great deal of strength and wisdom.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Thank you! I find that taking pictures helps remind me about what is good even in weather I don't care for.

And I love deer, too - so graceful. And on this day, so playful!

    1. I like to get a couple of snow days a year. But that's it.

  14. Your pictures are quite nice, how often do you get snow in the average winter? I get rather tired of seeing it, the snow in my yard is there from Nov to May. Recently, the below zero temps have created ice dams on the rivers, when they release it creates a semi-tidal wave downstream. Enjoy your touch of winter.

    1. Used to be that we got a few good snows that would last for several days each. Last year we got no real snow to speak of. The year before, I think, lots of very light snows but nothing that stuck around for any length of time.

  15. You probably have more hills to slide down than we do. When the snow comes and goes away in a few days that's not too bad. Not this winter for us but I remember winters where it stayed for many many weeks.

    1. Yes, we live essentially in the foothills of a mountain range, so it's rolling terrain. Good for sledding.

  16. You knew it was going to turn up at some point. Good thing you live in a place where it will go away quickly.

  20. So so pretty. Unlike most of the universe I wish I were in a wintry land instead of in 80 degree Los Angeles.

Hope you have a great Sunday!

  23. I laugh when you write about snow days in your area. It looks like such a light sprinkling to me. We only get a snow day if we literally cannot come out of our houses.

    1. It wasn't a dusting - we got a few inches of snow. But in the South, we don't have much in the way of road-clearing equipment.
